3 Day Winter Storm Warning Extended

SAN ANGELO – Weather Experts at the National Weather Service at Mathis Field in San Angelo have issued a three-day Winter Storm Warning in effect through Wednesday at noon as a major winter storm approaches the area.

According to the NWS, the temperature will remain below freezing from Monday morning through Wednesday afternoon and there are waves of freezing rain and snow on the way that will affect driving conditions and could cause school and business delays and closures. Wind chill values will drop to the teens.

Heavier precipitation will begin Monday night in the form of freezing rain.  Up to half an inch could freeze on roadways by drive time Tuesday morning.  Accumulations of ice on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses will cause extremely hazardous conditions across West Texas through early Wednesday morning.

A few power outages and falling tree limbs due to ice accumulations will be possible as well.

Take the proper precautions now.  Make sure exposed pipes are wrapped and protected.  Bring in all outdoor pets if possible.  If not, make sure they have plenty of clean water and warm shelter and check on them regularly day and night.

If you must travel, keep blankets, extra clothes, food, water, flashlights and emergency supplies in you vehicle.  Leave early, slow down and watch for other drivers.

This is a dynamic and dangerous winter storm.  Check back frequently for further updates and instructions.
