WATCH: Challenged Children's Hunt Celebrating 30 Years of Making Dreams Come True

SAN ANGELO – The annual Challenged Children's Hunt in San Angelo is celebrating 30 years of providing handicapped children the opportunity to experience a weekend hunting deer in the San Angelo area and was held last weekend on a private ranch near Arden.  

The Challenged Children's Hunt began in the San Angelo area in 1992 under the direction of Texas Game Warden J.D. Gould.  

Gould was present at the 30th annual hunt last Saturday.  He said the 11 children who participated this year are hunters.  "We're not creating hunters with this program.  These kids are hunters."  

Gould said they want the kids to participate as fully as they can with every aspect of the hunt. They want the children to spot the animals, shoot the animals, help field dress the animals and have a totally hands on experience to the extent each child is capable.  "Some of them all they can do is watch, but others get in there and fully participate."
