Here's When the Streak of 100+ Degree Day Heat Will End in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO – The streak of 100+ degree days will end this weekend if the forecast from the National Weather Service office in San Angelo is on target.

That Heat Advisory for West Central Texas continues Friday afternoon with temps expected to reach near 105 degrees so the risk of heat related illnesses is significant, but the forecast high temperate for Sunday is only 98 degrees.

If that holds, San Angelo will have had 70 days in 2022 where the temperature reached or exceeded 100 degrees counting Saturday.  The record is 100 days set back in the extreme drought year of 2011.  And the potential for the afternoon high temperatures to reach 100 degrees or above could extend well into September so there is a chance the 2011 record of 100+ degree days could be broken this year.

The Heat Advisory is in effect Friday from noon to 8 p.m.

Experts advise residents to drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquids, take frequent breaks in the shade and wear lightweight and loose fit clothing.  Check on vulnerable friends and family and never, ever leave a child or a pet in a locked hot car.  It's a crime.

The current oppressive heat wave will give way to cooler temperatures and a chance for some much needed rain by early next week.  There's a 20% chance of rain starting Tuesday and by Wednesday the afternoon high temperature is forecast to reach only around 96 degrees but there's more triple digit heat after that.

Extreme drought conditions have also left fields and pastures extremely dry so wildfires remain a concern across West Texas.  High Temperatures combined with low humidities and gusty southwest winds to create elevated wildfire conditions.  Elevated wildfire conditions means that any wildfire that ignites has the potential to spread rapidly.  At the latest report, 225 of Texas 254 counties had burn bans in effect and were experiencing significant or extreme drought.

This continues to be a very serious weather situation.
