SAN ANGELO – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo issued a Heat Advisory for part of the Big Country just north of San Angelo where the high temperature in Abilene is forecast at 102 degrees; San Angelo avoided that Heat Advisory for Monday afternoon with a forecast high of 101.
The Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m for Fisher, Nolan, Haskell, Throckmorton, Jones, Shackelford, Taylor and Callahan counties including the City of Abilene.
While the one degree keeps the Concho Valley and the City of San Angelo below the criteria for a Heat Advisory, 101 is still dangerously hot and residents should take the same precautions while working or playing outside.
Drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in the shade, wear loose fitting and light weight clothing, use sun screen and limit activities outdoors to the early morning and late evening hours. Check on vulnerable friends and neighbors and never, never ever, leave a child or a pet in a locked hot car.
The forecast calls for afternoon high temperatures to reach above 100 degrees everyday for the next ten days. There is a slight chance of some scattered showers around mid week but it is a very slight chance and temperatures will only drop slightly during those showers.
The string of 100 degree days has hit 57 for 2022 in San Angelo with at least another ten in the forecast. The record number of days with temperatures reaching 100 or above in a single year was in 2011, where there were 100 days of 100 degree heat in San Angelo.
