Heat Advisory Friday Could Extend Into the Weekend

SAN ANGELO – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Heat Advisory all of West Texas Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and it could be extended into the scorching weekend.  

According to the NWS, the combination of prolonged high temperatures and humidity will create hazardous conditions in which heat illnesses can occur.  

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors if possible, take frequent breaks in the shade if you do spend time outdoors, and know the signs of heat related illnesses.  

And never, ever, even for a minute leave a pet or a child in a hot car.  

The seemingly relentless heat will last into Sunday then there is a slight chance of some scattered showers with the passage of a minor cold front.  As of now, models are showing a 20 percent chance of rain Monday and a 30 percent chance by Tuesday.  Any rain that does fall will be light and scattered and will have no significant impact on the ongoing drought or dropping water levels in aquifers and reservoirs.
