SAN ANGELO – San Angelo area youngsters and their parents learned about summer safety at the Goodfellow Air Force Base Recreation Camp on Lake Nasworthy as the temperature soared above 100 degrees Tuesday afternoon.
Area non-profit organizations joined with the San Angelo Police Department, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Game Wardens and the Texas Department of Transportation to provide fun information for children and parents about outdoor safety during the summer.
One of the major concerns each summer is leaving children in hot vehicles. Texas Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Specialist Mona Lisa Fischer says at least one child has died on a hot vehicle in Texas this year.
