Dangerous Heat Advisory Issued Sunday Afternoon for the Concho Valley

SAN ANGELO – It's going to be so hot Sunday afternoon that leaving a dog or a child in a locked vehicle could kill either one. 

A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Concho Valley and Big Country Sunday afternoon and evening from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with high temperatures expected to reach 106 degrees in the San Angelo area. 

A Heat Advisory means it will be so hot for an extended period of time that heat illnesses will occur.  

Residents are cautioned to avoid long periods of strenuous activity outdoors.  Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, take frequent brakes in the shade or stay inside an air-conditioned room.  

Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.  Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing if possible.  

And never, ever leave a child or a pet in an enclosed vehicle even for a few minutes.  That's just asking for disaster.  

Temperatures are expected to reach above 100 degrees everyday this week.  Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings will be issued.  Monday and Tuesday are expected to be the hottest days of the week with afternoon high temperatures reaching near 110 degrees.  

This is the beginning of a long, hot, drought filled summer.
