Heat Advisory Issued for the Concho Valley Sunday

SAN ANGELO – Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo issued a Heat Advisory again for Sunday as temperatures again reach over 100 degrees with gusty southwest winds and very low humidity.

Like Saturday, the oppressive heat will combine with low atmospheric moisture and gusty winds to create conditions in which vulnerable individuals and people who are participating in strenuous activities could experience heat related illnesses.

The Heat Advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Heat illnesses are possible in hot conditions like those that will exist throughout the Memorial Day weekend.  Experts recommend everyone know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.  If you are spending extended time outdoors in the heat, drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids to avoid dehydration, take frequent breaks in the shade or preferably an air conditioned room, and wear light and loose fitting clothing.  Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing like long sleeves and head coverings.

Wildfire conditions are elevated but have not met the criteria for an a Fire Danger Statement or a Red Flag Warning.

While most parts of the Concho Valley and Big Country received some rainfall in the recent storms, the area is still extremely dry and the threat of wildfire spreading rapidly still exists.  Tom Green County Commissioners lifted the Burn Ban during their regular meeting Tuesday but caution is advised.

There is an excellent chance a Heat Advisory will be issued for Memorial Day Monday as well because temperatures will reach triple digits and the winds and humidity will be very similar to the last few days.

Expect extremely hot conditions to persist through the middle of the week.  There are slight rain chances in the forecast for Thursday but there's a lot of uncertainty in the forecast models.

This is a developing weather situations and additional advisories could be issued throughout the remainder of the Memorial Day weekend.
