WATCH: Controlled Burning at San Angelo State Park Will Be Visible Again for Miles

SAN ANGELO – Prescribed burn crews at the San Angelo State Park will begin another round of controlled burning Thursday.

Sources indicate there will be a large burn during the day Thursday which will be easily visible for miles around the San Angelo area.

According to a social media post, "Due to ongoing burn operations within San Angelo SP, only trails within the pink highlighted section of the map will be open until further notice. You can access these from 2288 walk-in gates at various locations along the highway. Remember to reserve your day pass online or at the South Gatehouse before entering the park."

Tom Green County Commissioners on Tuesday reinstalled a ban on all outdoor burning. Due to the lack of rain and the addition of high winds and low humidity, a 90 day burn ban will take effect on Friday, December 10, 2021 in the morning.

These types of burns (controlled or prescribed) are not covered by the burn ban.
