SAN ANGELO – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch effective until 3 a.m. for a region of Texas and Oklahoma including San Angelo and the Concho Valley.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Concho Valley comes as a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is forming west of the region ahead of a strong Pacific cold front. That north to south line of storms will move through the area during the overnight hours sometime between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.
Some of the thunderstorms could be severe with high winds, heavy rain and large hail the primary threats.
Areas in the Concho Valley that see the strongest storms will experience flash flooding as up to 1.5 inches of rain is expected.
Once the line of storms makes its way through the Concho Valley from west to east the rain will stop and high, gusty strong northwest winds will begin. A wind advisory kicks in Wednesday morning and is in effect until 5 p.m.
This is a dynamic and changing weather situation.
