NWS: Record Heat in the Concho Valley Monday

SAN ANGELO – An unusual temporary weather pattern will allow afternoon heating to build to record highs in the Concho and Big Country Monday before cooler weather and a good chance of rain returns to the area.

According to meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo an upper ridge of high pressure has built into the area and will allow record high temperatures Monday afternoon.

Monday's high temperature is expected to reach 93 degrees.  The record high temperature for this date in San Angelo is 91 degrees which was recorded in 1933 and again in 1950.  Similarly, the record high temperature in Abilene for today was 91 degrees set in 1950 as well.  The drought of record at the time was underway across West Texas in 1950.

The troublingly high temperatures will be short lived.  A pacific storm system is moving into the area by Tuesday evening and will bring the chance for severe thunderstorms Tuesday night across the Concho Valley and Big Country.

For Monday afternoon, use caution while engaging in outdoor activities, drink plenty of water and stay in the shade as much as possible.
