Abilene Zoo Vaccinating Exotic Animals for Covid-19

ABILENE, TX – Animals at the Abilene Zoo got their COVID-19 vaccine on Friday.

According to the Abilene Zoo, starting on Oct. 8, a number of animals at the Abilene Zoo got their COVID-19 vaccine. The over 40 animals included lions, hyenas, various monkeys, and the giraffe.

The head veterinarian for the zoo confirmed that none of the animals have shown side effects as of this time.

"We vaccinate our animals so that we can keep them safe," said Dr. Stephanie Clare. "We want to do everything we can to keep our animals safe."

The COVID-19 vaccine for animals has not been fully approved by the FDA but zoos across the nation have been administering the shot to their animals.

The second round of vaccines will be given in two weeks.
