SAN ANGELO, TX – A bone-chilling arctic cold front is headed for the Concho Valley and could drop temperatures to the single digits by Saturday night.
According to meteorologists with the National Weather Service in San Angelo, an arctic cold front will blow through the middle of the country and reach the Big Country and Concho Valley by Friday.
Wednesday night there is a 50% chance of rain and while it will be cold, temperatures will stay just above freezing at 33 degrees.
Thursday there is a 40% chance of rain or freezing rain before noon with a high temperature of 39 degrees.
Thursday night and Friday night temperatures will fall into the lower 20s but it is forecast to be dry.
Saturday will be cold with temperatures staying in the lower 30s then Saturday night the cold plunges to around 10 degrees.
Sunday the high temperature is expected to be around 24 degrees.
By Sunday night meteorologists are calling for temperatures to be around 12 degrees with a 30% chance of snow.
Monday's high temperature will be below freezing around 30 degrees with a 30% chance of snow before a warming trend begins Tuesday.
Temperatures this cold can burst pipes, kill outdoor pets and endanger unprotected livestock and plants.
Temperatures and wind chills this low can cause frostbite. Experts say dress in layers and don't stay outside for long periods of time.
This is a dangerous and developing weather situation.
