Earthquake Recorded Near Odessa Sunday

 

ODESSA, TX – According to Earthquaketrack.com a 2.4-magnitude earthquake was recorded Sunday evening approximately 6.2 miles north-northeast of Odessa.

The website indicates that seismic activity was reported around 9:18 p.m., roughly 6 miles away from Odessa, and listed at a total depth of 4.6 miles. 

Earthquake.com added that the quake is the first reported near Odessa in the last seven days, the fourth earthquake reported in the last 30 days, and the 41st earthquake reported in the last 365 days.

UPSeis.com describes that an earthquake with a reported magnitude of 2.5 or less, is “usually not felt, but can be recorded by seismograph.”

Their site shows that an estimated 900,000 quakes in that magnitude range take place each year.

According to earthquaketrack.com there were approximately 40 public reports of the tremor north of Odessa Sunday evening.
