Puppies Rescued After Being Dumped at Pond for Weeks

ABILENE, TX – A wire haired terrier and her four puppies were rescued Monday after they were dumped at a duck pond near Nelson Park in Abilene.

According to KTXS, on June 15, animal advocate Hannah Pitts discovered the five dogs while walking her dog and noticed they had been extremely deprived from necessities.

"They were unhealthy, skin and bones, and bloated from having worms," said Pitts.

Neighbors told Pitts that they have seen the dogs for the past few weeks.

"Someone left them out there in the heat to die, starve, or whatever." said Pitts.

Pitts took the dogs and now two have been adopted. The mother and the other three pups went to Rescue the Animals SPCA.

Director of Rescue the Animals SPCA Paul Washburn said the remaining dogs will be medically vetted and sent to no kill shelters in the United States.
