From Bad to Worse: Treacherous Driving Conditions and Power Outages Possible Overnight

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Freezing rain continues to fall in the Concho Valley and across West Texas and the National Weather Service is predicting conditions will worsen overnight. 

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until at least 6 a.m. Thursday.  Freezing rain and sleet expected. Ice accumulations of around five hundredths to a tenth of an inch possible, with local amounts of fifteen hundredths of an inch possible.

The freezing rain will affect the Concho Valley, Heartland, Northwest Hill Country, and the Northern Edwards Plateau through tonight, with a little sleet and or snow possible mainly Thursday morning.

Ice will make for hazardous driving conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Power outages are possible.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.

As of 1 p.m., patchy light freezing rain was occurring across the area southeast of a Sonora to Brownwood line while patchy freezing drizzle was occurring elsewhere.

Temperatures across the region continue to be in the 27 to 32 degree range.

There have been reports of numerous accidents in Abilene and San Angelo so far today.

Also, a few other accidents have been reported across the area. Icy roads are likely, especially bridges and overpasses.
