Ft. Concho Rider Wins Cavalry Championship

SAN ANGELO, TX -- (Press Release) Rick Dill of the Fort Concho Cavalry won the Hesse Championship Cup at the 2018 Regional Cavalry Competition at Fort Concho this past weekend.

His top score among the 10 finalists in the three-day event brought him the trophy named after longtime Fort Concho Museum board member and preservationist Barbara Hesse.

A member of the Fort Concho Cavalry since 1991, Dill noted his utter surprise as he was awarded the trophy, thinking he placed well, but not at the top. He credited his horse, Chance, and thanked all the competitors who attended the event.

The competition included courses in combat horsemanship, military horsemanship, jumping, saber and pistol. Competitors came from Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Carson, Colorado; and Fort Irwin, California, plus several from the Concho Valley. Dill and fellow Fort Concho Cavalry member Ron Perry have won many awards in the regional and national competitions over the past eight years.
