Texas Woman Sues McDonald’s Over ‘Severe Pain’ From McMuffin

NEW YORK — A Texas woman has sued McDonald’s, alleging that a Sausage Egg McMuffin she purchased at a Times Square restaurant in New York City left her seriously ill and caused lasting physical and economic harm.

Yvette Hinds filed the lawsuit May 26 in New York Supreme Court, claiming she became “violently ill and nauseated” shortly after eating the breakfast sandwich in 2023. According to the complaint, the food was “not fit for human consumption” and contained contaminants that caused severe illness.

The lawsuit alleges Hinds suffered pain and distress throughout her body and that her condition resulted from “injurious substances, contaminants, poisons, toxins, parasites, bacteria, germs and/or organisms” in the food. The complaint further claims McDonald’s employees knew or should have known the food was tainted.

Because the damages sought exceed the jurisdictional limits of lower courts, the case was filed in New York’s Supreme Court, the state’s trial-level court for major civil cases.

Hinds alleges she continues to suffer severe pain three years after the incident despite undergoing multiple operations, procedures and treatments. The lawsuit claims the illness caused permanent damage to her physical, nervous and mental systems, leaving her unable to perform household duties or work as she previously had. It also seeks compensation for medical expenses and other economic losses.

McDonald’s owner-operator Paul Goodman disputed the allegations in a statement, saying the company takes food safety seriously and follows strict handling practices.

“We strongly dispute the facts alleged in this lawsuit, but to remain focused on our customers, this matter was resolved months ago,” Goodman said.

Hinds’ attorney did not respond to requests for additional information about the nature of her alleged illness and injuries. It is unclear where Hinds lives in Texas.
