SAN ANGELO, TX — Verizon customers across the U.S. reported widespread wireless outages on Wednesday, with many saying their phones displayed “SOS” mode beginning around 11 a.m.
Verizon released a statement on X saying it was working on the issue.
"We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience."
"Verizon engineering teams are continuing to address today's service interruptions," the statement continued. "Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible."
Outage-tracking site Downdetector logged more than 180,000 reports at the peak of the disruption, with complaints surfacing from New York to California.
Some T-Mobile users also reported connection problems, though the company said its network was functioning normally.
Many Verizon phones shifted into SOS mode, a setting that allows devices to make emergency calls by connecting to other carriers when they cannot access their own network.
Verizon experienced similar nationwide disruptions in August 2025 and October 2024.
