SAN ANGELO, TX - Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp apps were hit with widespread outages Wednesday afternoon, affecting thousands of users globally.
By 12:10 p.m., over 100,000 Facebook users reported issues via DownDetector, while tens of thousands of Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads users also encountered disruptions.
The outages began spiking at 11:30 p.m. and peaked shortly after. By 1:30 p.m., reports of Facebook outages had decreased to approximately 18,000, and Instagram issues also showed signs of improvement. However, WhatsApp disruptions remained significant, with over 8,000 reports of problems persisting.
Users attempting to access Facebook encountered an error message reading, “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.” Meta confirmed on its status page that several business products, including Facebook Ads Manager, Instagram Messenger API, and WhatsApp Business API, were facing “major disruptions.”
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Meta acknowledged the outages, citing a technical issue that impacted some users’ ability to access the apps. The company assured users they were “working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible” and apologized for the inconvenience.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
