NEW YORK, NY — Talk show legend Phil Donahue died Sunday, Aug. 18, after a long illness. He was 88.
Known as “the king of daytime talk,” Donahue hosted “The Phil Donahue Show” for 29 years.
The show began in 1967 in Dayton, Ohio, and ended in 1996 in New York City, producing nearly 7,000 one-hour episodes.
He won 20 Emmy Awards during his broadcasting career and was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame in 1993.
Donahue is survived by his wife, Marlo, of 44 years. He had five children from a previous marriage.
