BREAKING: Mass Shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan

OXFORD, MI – Six students were shot and three were killed in a mass shooting Tuesday afternoon at Oxford High School in Oxford Charter Township, Michigan.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, the shooting suspect is a 15-year-old sophomore and is in custody.

The gun used was a semi-automatic handgun and Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe said the shooting “lasted five minutes.”

McCabe said 15 to 20 shots were fired and 100 calls were made to 911. The shooter appeared to have acted alone.

“There were no other guns, no other shooters as far as we know.” McCabe said.

District Superintendent Tim Thorne has not been briefed on the names of the victims of the shooting.

“Of course, I’m shocked. It’s devastating.” Thorne said.

Metal detectors had not been installed at the school and Thorne said he didn’t think the topic ever came up.

A junior at the school said she in-between classes when the shooting started just after lunch. “I hear kids running at me, then gunshots going off.” The student said. “I’m running and I see blood all over the floor. I run out into the parking lot and get in my truck and drive here (to the reunification area).”

Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said, “This is the first one we’ve had as far as active shooter goes from what I remember, and I’ve been here all my life.”
