NYC Mandates Proof of Covid-19 Vaccine for Indoor Dinning & More

NEW YORK, TX – As Covid-19 cases continue to increase, New York City becomes the first U.S. city to mandate proof of vaccination to participate in certain indoor activities.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the initiative –– known as Key to NYC Pass –– will begin August 16th and go into full enforcement next month. According to de Blasio, the mandate will require proof of coronavirus for employees and customers for indoor eateries, gyms, and entertainment centers.

Customers and employees will have the option to present their vaccination cards or upload proof of vaccination to the Excelsior Pass application.

“When you hear those words [Key to NYC Pass], I want you to imagine the notion that, because someone’s vaccinated, they can do all the amazing things that are available in this city,” said de Blasio.

After the announcement, the National Restaurant Association expressed support for increased vaccination efforts but considered the mandate a burden for restaurants employees.

“Checking vaccination status isn’t like ID-ing a customer before serving them a drink—staff receive training on how to do that,” said VP Larry Lynch in the statement. “Now, without training, our staff members are expected to check the vaccine status of every customer wanting to eat inside the establishment.”

The New York City Hospitality Alliance described the mandate as a “difficult step and controversial," but believed it would help prevent “new occupancy restrictions and shut down orders that will again devastate small businesses and workers who have not yet recovered from the pandemic.”

Walmart To Require All Associates to be Vaccinated Against COVID-19

BENTONVILLE, AR – After months of no longer mandating masks inside their stores and easing restrictions, Walmart announced last week it will require all associates to be vaccinated.

All market, regional and divisional associates who work in multiple facilities and all campus office associates must be vaccinated by Oct. 4, unless they have an approved exception.

"As we embrace future ways of working, we will focus on providing a healthy amount of flexibility to aid productivity as well as to retain and attract great associates like you. We will identify new ways of working together on the other side of this virus, but we have to fight the virus, all of us, to get there," said Walmart in a statement. "Throughout the pandemic, we have focused on the health and well-being of our associates. We believe we have an important role to play and believe the requirement for vaccinations for our leaders is key to driving toward an end to this pandemic. Let’s set the example."

In the announcement, Walmart urged employees to begin the vaccination process as soon as they can in order to be in compliance with the deadline.

The retailer also announced employees would be provided additional information on how the store will verify vaccinations.

The store acknowledged their understanding that a small percentage of associates may not be able to get vaccinated due to medical issues or religious reasons and announced it will have policies and a process to address those situations.
