Conaway Votes Against Ex-Im Bank Reauthorization

Washington  –  Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement after voting against legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank:

“I voted against reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank because I don’t believe that it encourages a free, open economy. I am also disappointed in my colleagues who chose to buck the usual legislative review process in favor of guerilla tactics to force a vote on this legislation. In today’s economy, we now more than ever need to focus our efforts on policies that will support a competitive, free market.”

Conaway is part of a small group of GOP lawmakers who tried to hold reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank hostage for their own ideological agenda. Their political gambit threatened not only our national security, but also the more than 1.4 million jobs the Bank supports.
