SAPD Pistol Team Takes First in National Shooting Championships

 

The San Angelo Police Department’s Pistol Team recently traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico with their sights set on some significant targets—  first place at the National Police Shooting Championships.

Held in late September, the championships are open to public and private law enforcement members and select law enforcement members of the U.S. military. 

This year, the SAPD Pistol Team brought home 12 trophies and competed with an estimated 300 police officers from the United States, Australia, and Germany.

Here are the standings for first place:

Bobby Elrod; first place Match 6 Classified

Brian Gesch; first place Match 14 Overall, Sharpshooter

Rusty Herndon; first place Match 6 Overall Municipal, Sharpshooter

Chris Heronema; first place Match 1, Marksman

The team has competed at the National level since 2006.
