Legislation to Lift Oil Export Ban Passes U.S. House Committee

Washington – Thursday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed legislation to lift the outdated ban on crude oil exports. The measure, which passed the committee by a vote of 31-19, is expected to be voted on by the House of Representatives later this month.

“The American energy sector has grown a great deal since the oil export ban was enacted 40 years ago,” said Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11). “Unfortunately, while American energy exploration and development has increased, there is still one law holding the United States back from becoming a worldwide leader in energy: the ban on exporting crude oil.

“I am confident that when faced with a vote on the oil export ban, an overwhelming majority of the House of Representatives will stand for the millions of new jobs and billions of dollars in economic growth our nation would see if we lifted the ban today. By voting to lift the antiquated ban on oil exports, I am voting to secure the economic future of West Texas- it’s just that simple.”
