Conaway Dissatisfied with Legislation Ending Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative K. Michael Conaway (R-Texas) issued the following statement after the House passed the Senate bill that would open the government and lift the debt ceiling.

“While I am relieved that the government will be getting back to work, I am disappointed in how we got here. I opposed this legislation because I do not believe that it did enough to address the deep fiscal challenges facing our nation and didn’t do more to halt the implementation of Obamacare.

I will continue the fight to rein in our deficits and reduce the crushing burden of debt we are leaving the next Americans.  With the passage of this bill, I hope that President Obama will make good on his promise to work with Republicans to begin to address our nation’s runaway spending.  His refusal to negotiate on the most pressing issues facing our nation is unconscionable and must end.”
