SAN ANGELO, TX — At a time of unthinkable challenges, one thing is certain: COVID-19 cannot cancel community, generosity, or kindness.
It is no surprise to see our community rise during times like these, opening their hearts to show gratitude for others. Our community has displayed heartfelt compassion over the past several weeks, throwing kindness like confetti! Not immune to the effects of COVID-19, local charities have felt the impact with increased service demands and cancelation of many spring fundraisers.
On May 5, the San Angelo Area Foundation hopes to pump positivity into the community through our annual San Angelo Gives campaign. The campaign brings San Angeloans together remotely to support those who need it most through a seamless online giving platform, benefiting more than 180 area causes.
Positioned perfectly for remote giving, San Angelo Gives is designed to inspire donors of all giving levels across our great region to stand together and support their favorite charities in a united effort. San Angelo Gives is a simple, easy and remote way for us to show our community resilience through heartfelt generosity. By giving to your favorite charities through www.sanangelogives.org the San Angelo Area Foundation and its supporters will amplify each gift, making each gift greater! Plus, donors choose the organizations that align with their passions and can help them win extra cash for their cause! In its sixth year, San Angelo Gives has always been about inspiring local unity, action and generosity. Now more than ever, the community can show its love for area organizations that are responding to community needs and tackling difficult challenges, and advanced giving is available for those who would like to give early and donors can choose to support one or multiple organizations in the same transaction. With the CARES Act Stimulus, some donors may choose to utilize a portion to provide support for nonprofits. This bill also makes a new tax deduction available for 2020, with up to $300 in annual charitable contributions benefiting those who do not itemize. This “above the line” adjustment reduces the adjustable gross taxable income of the donor.
Over the past five years, San Angelo Gives has witnessed tremendous generosity and collectively pumped more than $7 million of charitable dollars into the community! In 2019, the community shattered previous giving days raising over $2.2 million that benefited over 170 local charities in the Concho Valley. The Concho Valley always seems to step forward to support our community and this year’s San Angelo Gives can be a defining moment of solidarity.
