SAST's Paul Anthony inaugurated the Debbie Downer Sunday when he reported (behind paywall) that the Cline Shale play around here may not live up to all the hype. It was a well-written article worthy of consideration. The money quote: "Why would we drill these science project wells [in the Cline Shale]? Wolfcamp [the established Midland oil field] is generating a lot more buzz because there's a lot more success behind it and repeatedly at this point," said Bob Dye of Apache Corp. If you're invested because of the Cline, sell your real estate now and landlords lower your rent! SAST says it's a bust already.
I'm here to offer reality, or the objective viewpoint, though. Hold your head high and buy some more real estate knowing that the July 2013 motel receipts in San Angelo, as reported by the Texas Comptroller were $5.046 million, compared to the same month last year that was only $3.65 million. In other words, July's motel sales are 140% of last year's during the same period.
If the motels don't convince you, you can always check The Cline Shale Site for the latest rig counts.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram gave San Angelo LIVE! a shout-out for our reporting on the San Angelo Tea Party.
Texas Senator Wendy Davis, the Texas Democrat famous for filibustering to allow abortions up to five months, headlined The Texas Tribune's TribCast conference at The University of Texas where she said she supports the state issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens. You can watch the 30-minute interview here. As an antidote, Rick Perry's Second Act is explained here and Perry spoke at CPAC-St. Louis Saturday (video). They're both running for something.
The Dallas Morning News is rethinking its paywall by doubling down on it. DallasNews.com costs less than $10/mo.
The University of Texas A&M soundly defeated the redneck, plastic-pig-hat-wearing Razorbacks and moved up to #9 in the AP Coaches Poll. Not one Big 12 team is in the top 10 there, which is why Earl Campbell says Mack Brown should be fired.
Forbes is comparing the impasse in Washington over Obamacare as the onset of another Civil War. Obamacare as the modern-day Kansas-Nebraska Act is an interesting comparison. There are some differences. Lincoln, unlike Obama, showed empathy towards those in the South, though apparently not enough. Obama shows no empathy. Rather, arrogance is his modus operandi. You know, elections have consequences, he says. The other difference is that unlike life today, in 1860 almost everyone went to church and worshipped the same God. And we still slaughtered 600,000 men.
We must be doing something right. Someone accused me of being a liberal yesterday,
