WATCH: 'We Let Our Guard Down' and More Coronavirus Restrictions are Coming

SAN ANGELO, TX — "San Angelo let its guard down," County Judge Steve Floyd said. He attributed the daily increasing COVID-19 infection rate in San Angelo to recreational activities like the bars. We have heard Gov. Greg Abbott provide the same suggestion. Whatever the reason, the coronavirus has swept through Texas. In Texas, 125,921 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and there are 50,774 active cases as of June 24. But how is San Angelo weathering the storm?

As first reported on San Angelo LIVE!, on Mar. 5, the question was asked to the City of San Angelo's Director of the Health Department Sandra Villarreal was if San Angelo was ready for the coroanavirus

Less than a month later the first patient of COVID-19 in San Angelo was reported. That case was a man in his 70s. He was said to have traveled internationally prior to contracting COVID-19.  The following day, a second San Angeloan contracted the virus. He is a 20-year-old male. Thereafter the county issued a emergency declaration that mirrored the State of Texas restrictions, closing bars, dine-in at restaurants, and our public parks.

Now Tom Green County has 272 positive cases of Coronavirus with two deaths. There are 100,215 people who live in San Angelo.

The good news is testing was ramped up considerably since April revealing more details about how this virus spreads. Gov. Abbott said our health care infrastructure is better prepared to handle COVID-19 treatments than it was in March when the state locked down. The 125,921 Texans that have contracted the COVID-19 since March is about 0.4 percent of the 29 million people who live in the Lone Star State.

The original question was "Is San Angelo Prepared for the Coronavirus?" In this video Tom Green County Judge Steve Floyd and Director of the Health Department Sandra Villarreal offer and update. Judge Floyd warned that more restrictions are coming.

Who you got in your pocket? I haven't let my guard down, and I've been telling everyone that I know in San Angelo about how dangerous this is and how to handle it. I have info from epidemiologists, virologists, CDC, Johns Hopkins. I contacted the Health Department about number of ventilators and ICU beds around March 5th. I was referred to the hospitals, like they didn't know! Or didn't know it would be crucial information to planning. So, not me.

Please check the math on 125,921 Texans with Covid19 being 4 percent of 29,000,000.

Their math is right: 125,921 positive cases divided by 29 million Texans is .0043421, so .4 percent or .4%, like the story says.

No more lockdowns.
How in the hell can you be so clueless as to think you will stop a virus from infecting people?
Didn't work the first time so you want a second time?
A third??
How about a fourth???
And when you have so much lost revenue I suppose you will mandate a tax increase?

I for one am not willing to voluntarily surrender my rights a second time. Besides, remember the purpose of the original shut-down was to keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed; not to stop this virus. Now that the shutdown did it’s work, and our hospitals are safe, the virus merely picked up where it left off. Everyone with half a brain knew that would happen. However, we all know the survival rate from this virus is at around 99% now (like the common annual flu). Originally we were lied to with the government threatening “20 million deaths.” That was false. Further we know the CDC has encouraged healthcare providers to pad the COVID-19 death statistics, in writing. I’m not going to be fooled twice and these bureaucrats need to understand the “voluntary shutdown “ was a one-time occurrence, never to be repeated. And you gullible sheep still cowering in your homes, stay there if you like. That is your right. However, the rest of will continue on with our lives. Thank you.

Agreed. And I have family members that work at Shannon, they have only had a few COVID-19 patients that have been hospitalized. Many of the staff have been furloughed because the non-critical procedures were suspended. Our hospitals were never anywhere close to being over-run.

Ok, let’s see if logic can reach some of you. Rein in your emotions for a minute, take a breath, and think like a rational adult. Based on the numbers given in this article, there are 272 positive cases in San Angelo and the population is 100,215. That’s less than 0.3% of the population. There have been 2 deaths, that’s less than .002% of the population. Now let’s talk about small business owners. How many small businesses are in San Angelo? I don’t have the exact number, but I would venture to say hundreds. How many employees do each of these businesses employ? Dozens. We’re looking at thousands of citizens being affected by another shut down. Not just sick for a few weeks, but out of work indefinitely. How do you think these people pay their rent or feed their families without a job? Please don’t be so ignorant and inconsiderate to assume that shutting down small businesses only affects that business owner’s bottom line. That is their livelihood, how they feed their families, and future generations. They employ others who use that income to feed their families. I work in an industry where I see that aftermath of the shutdown first hand. People don’t know what they are going to do or where their next meal will come from because the government has decided who gets to work and who does not. We do not know for fact whether shutting down actually slows the spread or not, but we do know that effects of shutting down on livelihood, depression, etc. Everyone that is shaking in their boots about a virus that has 90% plus survival rate (not unlike the flu), please consider the cost.

Open the businesses...including the bars. I have not, nor will I ever personally enter a bar, but they have the right to be open and operating. No one has to go there if they don't want to. No one has to go in ANY business that they don't want to patronize. But, treat us like adults. If you want to wear a mask for the rest of your life, that is your rightful decision to make. If you want to stay home, then do. I'm willing to stand 6 ft apart, even though I don't think it is really necessary. I'm not going to hug or shake hands with anyone who doesn't want to. I can respect their rights to make those decisions. Now, respect my rights.

Do you not see the direct correlation between all this madness going on in this country and this virtual imprisonment we have all been under? I know the spark was the unjust and totally illegal killing of one man. But such incidents, unfortunately, have gone on for years. The fact that people were so frustrated about being out of work, out of money, and way too much time on their hands that led to unrest, anger, rebellion, lawlessness, destruction and murders. Let people go back to work. Let us have meaningful lives again. Covid-19 is never going to completely go away. Just like flu, pneumonia, cancer, heart attacks, and so many more are never going to go completely away. But locking us up has not cured anything.
