SAN ANGELO, TX - Shannon Medical Center again received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety.
This distinction recognizes Shannon’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors in the hospital. Shannon is the only hospital in the region to consecutively achieve this “A” rating in 2023 and 2024.
“Our vision at Shannon is to be trusted by the patients and families we serve,” said Shane Plymell, President and CEO at Shannon. “Receiving the ‘A’ grade recognition for the fourth time reflects the commitment of our providers and staff to making our patients their first priority by providing safe, high-quality care and service. Thank you to our entire organization for your focus on always improving care and safety for our patients.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Shannon,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Shannon, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
