San Angelo Clubhouse Celebrates Clubhouse Week of Action

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Clubhouse is thrilled to announce its participation in the national Clubhouse Week of Action from May 28 through May 31, 2024. This week-long event is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical role Clubhouses play in supporting individuals living with mental illness and promoting mental health wellness in our community.

Each day of the Clubhouse Week of Action will feature unique events and activities designed to engage, educate, and inspire. San Angelo Clubhouse invites all leaders, community members, and media representatives to join us in celebrating and advocating for mental health support.

We would appreciate coverage for any event, especially the main event, Empowering Community, on Thursday, 5/30.

Event Schedule:

Tuesday, May 28: Clubhouse Tour Tuesday!

  • Time: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Details: Kick off the week with a guided tour of the San Angelo Clubhouse. Learn about our programs, meet our members, and see firsthand how we support mental health recovery. Tours every hour on the half-hour, starting at 9:30 a.m.
  • Location: San Angelo Clubhouse, 404 S. Irving, San Angelo, TX

Wednesday, May 29: Wellness Wednesday

  • Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    • Details: With wellness as a key focus in the Clubhouse model, we will spend the day focusing on various wellness activities, from a member-led guided meditation to a Zumba class, and a fun dance lesson. Healthy snacks throughout the day, of course!

Thursday, May 30: Empowering Community
  • Time: 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
    • Details: The main event for the week, Representative Drew Darby will speak about Clubhouses and the importance of mental health in our community. Several San Angelo Clubhouse members will speak about how the Clubhouse model has changed their lives.
  • Event Location: San Angelo Clubhouse, 404 S. Irving, San Angelo, TX

Friday, May 31: Steps to Awareness event

  • Time: 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
    • Details: Conclude the week with a fun and festive picnic on the Courthouse lawn, followed by a walk around the Clubhouse holding mental health awareness signs. We’ll showcase the need to bring awareness to mental health, while celebrating the achievements of our Clubhouse members and the support of our community.
  • Location: Tom Green County Courthouse

San Angelo Clubhouse is one of 354 Clubhouses around the world. A community-based approach to supporting adults living with mental illness, the Clubhouse Model operates on the principles of mutual support, respect, and empowerment. Clubhouses provide a safe, inclusive environment where members can engage in meaningful work, educational opportunities, and social activities. The Clubhouse model promotes recovery, reduces social isolation, and helps individuals achieve their personal and professional goals by providing a supportive, community-centered environment.
