Abilene Drops to Critical on the Community Safety Level Dial

ABILENE, TX –– A month after Hendrick Health set the Covid-19 Community Safety Level to Emergency, officials have dropped to Critical on the dial.

The decision to reduce to Level Five came after the hospital experienced seven consecutive days where the percentage of Covid-19 hospitalizations remained below 15 percent in Trauma Service Area D.

According to Hendrick Health between Abilene and Brownwood, there are 85 total Covid positive hospitalizations –– with 32 being in the ICU.

Of the 85 hospitalized patients, only 17 were vaccinated against the coronavirus. According to the data released by the hospital, less than 20 percent of patients hospitalized and in the ICU are fully vaccinated.

"Vaccinations have proven to be the most effective way to protect individuals from COVID-19 and from the risk of serious illness or hospitalization," said Hendrick Health in a social media post.
