Water Main Break in Sweetwater Threatens Town's Water Supply

SWEETWATER  – The City of Sweetwater announced Tuesday that a boil water notice has been issued due a water line break.

According to the City of Sweetwater, on Aug. 7, due to an 18-inch water main line break that caused reduced distribution system pressure to occur, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Sweetwater (PWS ID 1770002) to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify you that the water is once again safe for consumption without the need to boil. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice.

If you have questions regarding this matter you may contact Eddy Campbell, Director of Utilities at 235-4166 or 933-0316 or Justin Clowers, Operations and Maintenance Supervisor at 235-4166 or 933-0337.
