Midland Memorial Sets Up Over Flow Tent As Covid Cases Rise

MIDLAND, TX –– Covid-19 continues to overwhelm West Texas hospitals. Midland Memorial Hospital is now setting up an overflow tent to accommodate emergency room patients.

The latest reports show MMH is currently housing 125 Covid-19 patients, with 17 of them on ventilators.

According to DSHS, Trauma Service J, which includes Midland, has a 17.1% Covid-19 hospitalization rate. The area serves more than 500,000 people but only has 519 available beds at this time. Additionally, there are only 19 ICU beds unoccupied.

MMH officials confirmed the tent will hold at least 14 stalls intended for patients who do not require extensive nursing care and can be treated outside the emergency room.

The tent will be staffed by hospital staff and staff provided by the state.
