SAN ANGELO, TX – The Biden Administration approved a disaster declaration for several Texas counties because of the winter storm Saturday but Tom Green County was left out of the declaration.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration for all 254 counties because of the historic and devastating storm.
Here is State Representative Drew Darby's statement on the administration's decision to leave out certain counties including Tom Green:
“Governor Abbot this week requested from the federal government a Major Disaster Declaration for all 254 Texas counties due to the severe winter weather that left millions without power, food, water and shelter. Today, the Biden administration approved a small list of counties to receive individual assistance under the Declaration, and excluded several West Texas counties from the same emergency support. I strongly urge the Biden administration to quickly remedy this decision and allow deployment of resources to all West Texas counties impacted by the recent devastation. West Texas is a significant producer for our state, and home to critical oil and natural gas and agricultural operations. Our people are hurting and need equal access to federal funding to help us recover. I spoke to Congressman August Pfluger this morning about the exclusion by the Biden Administration, and Congressman Pfluger is working now to coordinate federal relief for West Texas. In the meantime, local entities and individuals should continue to document any damages and keep receipts in order to demonstrate the overwhelming need.”
