COSA: Vast Majority of City Is Free from Water Contamination

SAN ANGELO, TX -- On Friday afternoon, the City of San Angelo announced a vast majority of the city is now in the green zone - meaning no water restrictions are in place for those neighborhoods.

All residents in the green area can use their water regularly without restrictions. Flushing lines in this area is unnecessary as no contaminants were found in that part of town.

With the newly updated map, the PaulAnn area remains in the red zone and is expected to remain until all the contaminated water is flushed out. According to Water Utilities Director Allison Strube, this includes the flushing of 94 hydrants. The effort will continue around the clock and may be completed as early as by tomorrow, but the weather will have an impact on the timeline.  Once completed, new samples will have to be taken and sent to Austin to ensure that the water is free of contaminants.

According to officials, it will be at least several days before water usage will return to normal in the PaulAnn area. The exact day will also be contingent on how quickly the samples can be transported and processed in Austin. The do-not-use restrictions cannot be lifted until the testing shows the water is free of the identified contaminants.

In order to aid the PaulAnn residents who have been without water since Monday, the city announced it will bring a shower truck for residents sometime Saturday. The shower truck will be located in the parking lot of PaulAnn Baptist Church.

On Friday afternoon, city staff will be hand delivering water to all residents of the PaulAnn area Friday afternoon. Enough water will be delivered to each residence to ensure residents have enough water as the weather continues to worsen.
