Several Texas Regions are Being Overrun by COVID-19

ABILENE,TX – Hospitals in Abilene, Bryan-College Station and Laredo have run out of available ICU beds and are asking people to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In an emergency message to citizens, the City of Laredo has said, “Hospitals are overwhelmed and at capacity with the surge of COVID-19 cases. Lives are at stake, we are asking you to stay home unless it is absolutely necessary.”

Last week, Laredo reported almost 5,000 cases of COVID-19 and on Wednesday had over 2,000 cases. Nearly half of Laredo’s hospital capacity is COVID patients and Abilene and Bryan-College Station have had trouble keeping available beds since November of last year. Since December, the Laredo area has led Texas in COVID patients.

In a tweet Friday, the Texas Department of State Health Services said the pandemic has never been worse in Texas and is also concerned that intensive care units across the state cannot take much more.
