SAN ANGELO, TX -- After spending 17 days above the 15% COVID hospitalization threshold, Abilene is finally reporting a lower number of hospitalizations.
On Friday, the hospitalization rate hovered at 15.12 percent and by Saturday had dropped to 14.63 percent. On Sunday, the Department of State Health Services reported the hospitalization rate was at 13.82 percent.
If the downward trend continues for the next 5 days, then Trauma Service Area D, which includes Taylor County, may re-open its bars and return to 75 percent capacity.
As of Sunday afternoon, Trauma Service Area D reported 126 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized. Additionally, for the first time in weeks, there are now a couple of ICU beds available.
Trauma Service Area "D" includes Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Knox, Mitchell, Nolan, Shackleford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor, and Throckmorton counties.
