AUSTIN, TX – San AngeloLIVE! has used data provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services in order to track how many residents have tested positive for the coronavirus in Texas each day.
This state data is collected from 57 city and county health departments, roughly 600 hospitals, approximately 340 laboratories, and the state's vital records registration system. However, please note this data may not represent all statewide cases of the virus due to limited testing across the state.
Following the first round of business shutdowns due to the coronavirus Gov. Greg Abbott released his plan to revive the Texas economy by allowing businesses to reopen in May, however he quickly recanted his decision and halted any further openings while scaling back on others, as hospitalizations increased dramatically in June.
On July 2, Gov. Abbott issued his statewide mask mandate which required that most Texans wear a mask in public spaces, which experts attribute to a 'plateauing' of cases and hospitalizations across the state.
As of lately, testing data numbers have dropped to levels not seen since June, which ultimately caused Gov. Abbott to loosen his previous restrictions on restaurants and other small businesses.
However, the re-openings of public institutions across the state posed newer risks due to the fact that a majority of Texas schools currently have no plans for widespread testing on campus.
After previous testing data records were tossed out due to issues with the state's testing methods, an updated data report for the reported coronavirus cases in public schools was re-released on Sept. 30 by the DSHS.
