ABILENE, TX – Just five days after the City of Abilene cleared 600 COVID-19 cases, city officials are now confirming the city has surpassed 800 cases.
On Wednesday afternoon, the city confirmed 44 new cases, 21 from PCR tests and 23 from antigen tests. This brings the total positive case to 815. There are currently 434 active cases.
Officials also confirmed the death of an 80-year-old female who passed away from COVID-19 complications. It is unknown if the patient has an underlying conditions. This is the 10th death reported in the city.
Currently there are 43 patients hospitalized due to coronavirus complications. To date the city has tested over 10,000 individuals.
Out of the 815 cases 279 of them were from being exposed to a known case, 180 of the cases were classified as community spread, 31 of them were travel related, 312 cases are still pending and 13 cases are unknown how they contracted the virus.
