Coronavirus: Taylor County Jail Locked Down

ABILENE, TX — The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Werdnesday that coronavirus continues to plague the Taylor County Jail after seven correctional officers and two inmates test positive.

According to KTXS, the jail was placed in lockdown to limit movement within the facility and reduce the spread. The jail has been closed for visitors and only permitted visits from attorneys and bail bondsmen.

The jail will continue to accept arrested suspects and continue to take “every precaution necessary to prevent any additional cases.”

"There is no reason to panic over this," Sheriff Ricky Bishop said. "We are taking necessary precautions."

Sheriff Bishop has also requested a jail response team from the Texas Department of Emergency Management to test 150 employees and the remaining 765 inmates for COVID-19.
