First Teen Tests Positive for COVID-19 in Juvenile Detention Facility

 

SAN ANTONIO, TX — The first case of COVID-19 at a Texas juvenile detention facility has been confirmed by the state.

According to KTXS, the juvenile is being treated at the Giddings State School, located east of Bastrop.

According to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, the youth is in medical quarantine and will remain there for treatment. He will remain there unless doctors send him to the hospital for additional treatment.

"I want the youth and his family to know that we will give him the best medical care that we can," said Executive Director Camille Cain. "Our agency has been preparing for the possibility of a positive youth case since the start of the pandemic, and we are well-positioned from a staffing and equipment standpoint to respond. Our priority is the health of this young man."

According to the department they are awaiting coronavirus test results for additional juveniles.
