Coronavirus: Corrections Officer Dies One Day After Testing Positive

 

ABILENE, TX – The Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed the death of a corrections officer at the Middleton Unit after testing positive for COVID-19.

According to KTXS, 53-year-old James Coleman collapsed in his home on Monday and was taken to the hospital where he tested positive for COVID-19. He passed on Tuesday afternoon.

“There is no measure of the unexpected loss of someone we hold dear,” said Bryan Collier, Executive Director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. “The thoughts and prayers of the TDCJ family are with those close to Officer Coleman. We can only hope that is of some comfort to his friends and family.”

Coleman had been with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 20 years. His death is under medical review.
