In Abilene, a Second Fatality from COVID-19

ABILENE, TX — A second person infected by COVID-19, the disease associated with the coronavirus has died in Taylor County.

According to the Abilene Taylor County Public Health District, the deceased was in intensive care at Hendrick Medical Center. He was a male in his 70s and suffered from other underlying health conditions. The health district did not elaborate on what the other health issues were, but did stress that the case was not associated with the breakout at the Disability Resources, Inc. living facility where the previous Abilene fatality was living.

The man caught COVID-19 through community spread, the health department said.

“The City of Abilene extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased patient,” said City spokeswoman Mari Cockerell.

As of April 15 at 2 p.m., Abilene reported 79 COVID-19 cases. As of tonight, 2 are dead; 7 are hospitalized; and 12 have recovered.
