SAN ANGELO, TX – A Goodfellow Air Force Base military dependent tested positive for COVID-19 according to information from the base Saturday.
Goodfellow notified public health authorities of the positive test and are taking prudent measures to ensure the dependent is receiving the appropriate care. The individual contracted the virus through community spread.
“This military dependent is the first confirmed case for Goodfellow” said Col. Andres Nazario, 17th Training Wing commander. “We have been preparing for weeks and have, in partnership with our community, measures in place to combat the virus. Our guiding principle is, as always, your health and safety.”
The individual and their family have been quarantined to prevent further spread of the virus.
“We ask for your compassion and prayers for the dependent and the family.” said Nazario.
Goodfellow continues to take prudent, proactive measures to ensure the safety of its population. We continue to urge everyone to use proper hygiene practices, practice physical distancing and use face masks to limit the spread of the disease. Currently, this is the only Goodfellow AFB related positive case.

PermalinkHow could this happen. The base was closed to retirees to prevent this, taking away their access to the commissary, base exchange and more importantly the pharmacy. I assume this dependent went off base, because it was community spread. Look at the number of cases in San Angelo. Were any of them military retirees. Probably not because we know how to obey instructions. Us being able to go directly to the pharmacy and home would pose less danger then the base residents do to themselves.

It anyone else is curious, I encourage you to call them and ask them yourselves. I mean, I know legally they dont have to shut down their office and ask their employees to quarantine for 21 days, but it would be the right thing to do by the great people of this county. They may need some encouragement to do the right thing. Some businesses are just so busy getting work done that they dont pay attention and need the people to offer gentle, law abiding reminders. All large businesses can fall into rut and forget. Lest we forget :)
