Coronavirus: A Message from Parks & Recreation Director Carl White

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo and Tom Green County are now in a state of emergency and businesses are closed complying with local and statewide orders as the country deals with Coronavirus.  Here's a message from San Angelo Parks Director Carl White about how to responsible enjoy the great outdoors:

"We are all now experiencing challenging times. As we follow recommendations of our elected leaders and the Center for Disease Control to limit the spread of COVID-19, many of us have had to stay close to home and away from social settings and workplaces. This is needed at these times.

With the awakening of spring and wonderful weather, this is a great time to get out at our parks. Obviously, we should do this in responsible ways that include the following recommendations to distance ourselves from others, limit touching commonly touched items and washing our hands often.

The Parks and Recreation department has stepped up measures to clean common park amenities such as playgrounds, pavilion tables, restrooms and drinking fountains. At present, we are not closing these amenities to the public, but users should be very cautious in using them.

Great options for getting out to our parks and enjoying the out-of-doors while limiting your exposure include:

  • Red Arroyo Trail
  • Concho River Trail
  • Lake Nasworthy parks (but please keep your distance from others)
  • Civic League Park (water lily park)
  • Sunken Gardens Park (sculpture gardens park)
  • Walking trail at Kirby Community Park
  • Walking trail at Jaime Padron Park
  • Walking trail at Producers Park
  • Open areas at any of the larger parks

Grab some fast food, take it to a park with family or close friends and enjoy a picnic. Take a bicycle ride along the Red Arroyo Trail. Enjoy the wildlife at the Lake Nasworthy parks. Soak in the sun and see the flowers bud and bloom at our garden parks. Grab a pole, some tackle and your license and fish along the rivers.

We all need to stay active, productive and healthy at these times and enjoying the outdoors responsibly is a great option to stay healthy."
