H-E-B Rations Disinfectant Products Amid Coronavirus Scare

SAN ANGELO, TX – As public concern continues to grow over the spread of the Coronavirus, retailers have seen an increase in the demand for disinfectant products. In Texas, H-E-B stores have taken the precautionary measure to limit the number of disinfecting sprays and wipes per shopping trip.

According to the H-E-B website and signs found inside the store, the retailer is limiting customers to four disinfecting products per transaction as a precautionary measure. This will “ensure that all customers find the products they need.”

As of this time H-E-B’s competitor, Walmart, has not restricted the purchase of these items.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services website, they recommend the following precautions to avoid exposure to the virus, many are similar to the flu.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow the CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask:
    • The CDC does not recommend that people who are well, wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID‑19.
    • Face masks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID‑19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of face masks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).

In response to the outbreak of a new strain of Coronavirus, identified as SARS-CoV-2, manufacturers that produce disinfectant products have created specific pages on their websites that inform consumers of what the Coronavirus is and what products have demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2 on a hard, nonporous surface.”

CloroxLysolPurell, are among several manufacturers that are providing customers with information about their products and their effectiveness against similar strains of the virus.
