SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- The San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department will resume immunizations and tuberculosis testing on Tuesday, July 11, following the appointment of Dr. James Vretis as the local health authority.
Vretis replaces Dr. Stephen Seifert, who died unexpectedly June 26 after having served as the department’s medical director for more than 15 years. Without medical oversight, which is required by law, the department’s nurses lacked the authority to administer shots, test for and treat sexually transmitted diseases, and administer other communicable disease control measures.
Though the clinic will not open until next week, the Health Department is scheduling patients for STD clinics.
The Health Department is located at 2030 Pulliam St., Suite 8. The department is open 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

I'm glad we have already seated a new City Medical Director.
But that photo is a bit disconcerting.... WHY is he apparently wearing a KEVLAR VEST (Body Armor) in the presumably appropriate medical facility setting????
Inquiring mimes want to know.

PermalinkWhat he is wearing is NOT kevlar, it is MOLLE gear (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) it is simply designed to help hold numerous attachments right in arms reach. Many military units use the MOLLE gear with the FLAK jackets or even on the backpacks and everything else they carry. Just because he is wearing MOLLE gear does not mean he is wearing body armor or on a military base, just that he tries to be as efficient as possible while doing his job. You can buy this same gear for your trucks, jeeps, cargo pants....etc.

PermalinkExcellent info. I can see MOLLE gear would make life a lot easier in the medical environment.
But admittedly, the drama of needing KEVLAR in the doctor's office sure raised some eyebrows, didn't it?
