SAN ANGELO, TX – Concho Valley ER held its official ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon after opening their doors in February. The center offers a fully functioning, free standing ER, that features shorter wait times and personalized care. Open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, Concho Valley ER provides a new approach to emergency care.
“We give the same level of care and the same quality of care just without the wait.” Dr. John Speck, Partner at Concho Valley ER, said.
The center will be staffed by four local physicians, who will work in rotating shifts to serve the people of San Angelo and the surrounding areas. The center features its own onsite laboratory, CT scan, ultrasound tech and equipment, and a radiologist, who will be on hand 24 hours a day to attend to the needs of the patients. By providing these various features onsite, patient wait time is greatly reduced and the care physicians provide can be delivered in a timely manner.
Wait times in traditional ERs are often extensive as hospitals attempt to cope with a high volume of patients. In places like Concho Valley ER, the wait times can be as short as 10 minutes, and depending on the medical issues, patients can be discharged within an hour.
“We can have you on your way home before you [could finish] paperwork or gotten checked in at some of the other hospitals.” Dr. John Speck said.
Patients will need to be transported to Concho Valley ER by personal vehicle, because emergency transport will only take patients to Shannon or Community Health Centers. By having a smaller volume of patients, doctors have the opportunity to focus on their patients and provide one-on-one care that can be harder to achieve in larger settings where physicians are required to attend a large number of patients at any given time.
“This was designed by doctors to treat patients the way we want to,” Speck said, “”if we could design a perfect ER, this is the kind of ER we came up with.”
In addition to providing the necessary care for trauma and injury care, they are also equipped with observation rooms to allow patients to remain overnight if they require additional care or if their physician would like to keep them in observation overnight. With spacious rooms and patient amenities, Concho Valley ER is a new and different way for the citizens of San Angelo and the sounding areas to experience emergency care. The ribbon cutting was attended by several members of the community including Mayor Morrison, Council Members Lane Carter, Lucy Gonzales and Charlotte Farmer. Chamber employees as well as Cadre members were also present for the ceremony.
“I think it’s going to be good for the community, it’s another option and no waiting.” Mayor Morrison said, “I hope they are very successful, we got some real good doctors here.”
For City Council Member Lane Carter, this event was special on a personal level, as he recalled working with both Dr. Michael Neal and Dr. Marvin Carroll when he began his nursing career at Community Medical Associates ER.
"It’s [great] for me to see them prosper on their own.” Carter said, “They invested in me and now I get to invest in them. This is more personal than just business.”
“We are very happy to be here and we feel very blessed to have this business,” Dr. Marvin Carroll said, “we hope that we can provide good healthcare to everyone in the Concho Valley and we urge them to come see us when they have a health problem.”
